Fujairah University Raises Awareness of Breast Cancer

The Department of Nursing at the College of Dentistry and Health Sciences, Fujairah University, organized an awareness event titled “Breast Cancer Awareness – Early Detection Saves Lives” on Friday evening at The event reflects the university’s ongoing commitment to supporting national efforts in public health awareness and promoting a culture of early screening, contributing to improved recovery rates and overall quality of life. The campaign attracted significant public attendance, where faculty members and nursing students conducted several interactive activities to educate visitors on prevention methods, the importance of self and regular examinations, and the role of psychological support in the treatment journey.
The event also offered free health screenings, including vital signs and Body Mass Index (BMI) checks, along with guidance and medical advice for individuals with high blood pressure or obesity, emphasizing the need for regular medical follow-ups to ensure community health and well-being.
Health education extended beyond visitors to include their families, encouraging collective awareness and shared responsibility for health within the home and society.
In a press statement, Dr. Suleiman Al Jassim, President of Fujairah University, highlighted that the event underscores the university’s strong connection with the local community and its dedication to spreading awareness about diseases that pose serious risks to public health. He stressed that early detection of breast cancer remains one of the most important factors in increasing full recovery rates and reducing mortality associated with the disease.
He further added that awareness about self-examination and regular screenings such as mammography is an essential step in prevention and disease control. Regular checkups help women identify abnormal changes early, allowing doctors to intervene promptly and take appropriate action. Therefore, promoting the culture of early detection is a collective social responsibility that helps safeguard women’s health and improve their quality of life.
